Art Quilt playing cards

Published October 29, 2022 Updated October 29, 2022

A pack showcasing the work of 54 of America’s finest quilt artists.

1995 USA Lark Books Collaborative

This pack represents the culmination of a project organised by Sue Pierce, who asked 54 quilt artists to create a “stitched construction of three or more layers made primarily of fabric”, 28 inches high by 18 inches wide. Each artist was told which card they were to design. The 54 quilts then appeared at the Smithsonian Institution’s Renwick Gallery in the spring of 1995 before going on a three-year travelling exhibition. There is immense diversity in the designs, in terms both of technique and of style. Each artist’s name is given in the top right-hand corner. An extensive leaflet accompanies the pack describing each design. See the title card
