Naipes de Personajes Granadinos

Published January 16, 2024 Updated January 16, 2024

Forty famous men and women with links to Granada, on a pack designed by Rubén Garrido.

2023 Spain Heraclio Fournier Rubén Garrido

Artists, writers, musicians and historical figures who were born or died in Granada or who worked there are featured in this resolutely modern pack designed by Rubén Garrido. Some of the borderless images could be described as childlike or even naïve at times but they have a strength and unity derived in part from the background colour used for each of the Spanish suits – yellow for coins, red for cups, light blue for swords and brown for batons. A short description of each character is given top right. As mentioned already, the designs are borderless so there are no ‘pintas’ (line breaks) to indicate the suits. Mauro Parodi is credited with designing the batons and Manuel Martínez Vela the back design (inspired by decoration at the Alhambra). See the box
