English Translation

The Wedding of Krechinsky" is a satirical comedy by Alexander Sukhovo-Kobylina, which was adapted into a musical by Kim Ryshow and Alexander Kolker with a German stage version by Ingeburg Kretzschmar. The play, written in 1854 and forming the first part of a dramaturgical trilogy, tells the story of a social swindler, Krechinsky, who deceives a moneylender with a counterfeit deck of playing cards.

This set of playing cards pays homage to the play and its characters, turning them into the faces of the suit of hearts, symbolizing the themes of deception and romance central to the plot. The play has made a significant cultural impact, being included in Russian theater repertoires and performed internationally.
