The Beatles • Yellow Submarine
A colourful deck celebrating the 1968 animated feature film based on the Lennon/McCartney song of the same name.

Above: the Beatles Yellow Submarine playing cards by Carta Mundi, featuring whimsical and colorful artwork inspired by the iconic animated film.
“It was twenty years ago today…” so aptly begins the song, Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which features in this musical fantasy film. Apt, because this deck was released twenty years ago in 2004.
Featuring 53 different images from the bizarre, animated movie, this set from the American arm of Carta Mundi are of poker size on a quality satin card stock.
The Aces and Kings feature a different Beatle, Queens are inhabitants of Pepperland and Jacks are the Chief Blue Meanie. The rest of the deck show random images from the film.
The copyright reads: “2004 Subafilms Ltd. A Yellow Submarine Product”. Subafilms are owned by Apple Corps Ltd, Paul McCartney, Richard Starkey, Yoko Ono and G.H. Estate Ltd.
The cards are all vertically viewed, with some being framed images, others cutouts of characters. See the box

I've played card games from the age of three, collecting all things "cards" from 16 and finally started to specialise at 58! Thanks to these wonderful pages and a certain Mr Lodge, my main interest is in British decks, with examples of the English standard pattern in other countries. I am beginning to develop a liking for Belgium and German cards, too. It's nice to be able to spend time writing profiles for WOPC, on more modern yet beautiful decks. Looking forward to retiring in April, when I can spend more time on this wonderful interest.
