Il Tarocco Mitologico
Fully pictorial Tarot designed by Amerigo Folchi with figures mainly from Greek mythology.
Set against vibrantly coloured, marbled backgrounds with a different colour or set of colours for each suit, the largely Greek mythological figures resemble classical marble statues. Amerigo Folchi’s imaginative designs are attractive in terms both of their variety and of the range of colours used. The card names and titles appear top and bottom in both Italian and English. The double-ended back design includes part of an Ionic column. The text for the extensive booklet in Italian and English was written by Andrea Gamboni. Numbered edition of 3,000 packs.

Above: Il Tarocco Mitologico designed by Amerigo Folchi, made and published by Italcards, Bologna, Italy, 1988. 78 cards + 2 extra cards + 62-page booklet in Italian and English + sleeve in tuck box. Size: 70.5 x 110 mm.
Sadly, this prolific artist died in Pistoia in 2020 at the age of 67, a victim of COVID-19. One curious mistake: Folchi’s first name is incorrectly spelt on the box sides (“Americo”) • See the box
