Cards on cards in celebration of playing-card collector Franz Braun’s 75th birthday.
Franz Braun (1923-2016) was a German playing-card collector, editor and publisher of numerous books and catalogues about the history of playing cards, and an amateur magician. To celebrate his 75th birthday, he chose many of his favourite playing cards to adorn this pack, in each case finding a card corresponding to the actual card value of his finished pack. He wanted to show how diverse playing cards can be in their design and shape. Each one is identified in German. Franz Braun’s portrait - in black on cream - forms the back design. Edition of 500 packs.

In 1977 he joined the newly formed playing-card department at Stanley Gibbons in London before setting up his own business in Edinburgh four years later. His collecting interests include playing cards, postcards, stamps (especially playing cards on stamps) and sugar wrappers. He is a Past President of the Scottish Philatelic Society, a former Chairman of the IPCS, a Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards and Curator of the WCMPC’s collection of playing cards. He lives near Toulouse in France.
