Jeu du Bicentenaire de la Révolution Française

Published March 02, 2024 Updated March 02, 2024

Pack created by Yannick Pennanguer commemorating the bicentenary of the French Revolution and the centenary of L’Est Républicain.

1989 France France Cartes Yannick Pennanguer Commemorative Revolution

Two different anniversaries were marked by the issuance of this pack: the bicentenary of the French Revolution (1789-1989) and the centenary of the Nancy-based newspaper, L’Est Républicain (1889-1989). The latter is commemorated on the reverse, while the court cards depict famous men and women involved in the French Revolution, such as Marat and Robespierre. Yannick Pennanguer’s designs are striking for two reasons: the blue, white and red ‘painted’ backgrounds which remind one of the French tricolour, and the dotted, pointillist style used to create the designs on the courts, aces and jokers. More information is given in the accompanying leaflet (in French)
