Les Ordres de Chevalerie

Published March 11, 2023 Updated March 11, 2023

Six orders of chivalry represented pictorially by the artist Patrick Dallanégra.

2006 France Dusserre Patrick Dallanégra Historical

The orders of chivalry represented here all began life during the Crusades, 1097-1291. Grand Masters, knights and others are shown on the Kings and Jacks. As all knights were male, banners are displayed in place of the Queens. The orders depicted on the four suits are the Knights Templar (H), the Knights Hospitaller (C), the Order of the Holy Sepulchre (D), and the Teutonic Knights (S). Their respective symbols appear in place of the pips on the numeral cards and in the background of each court card. The two Jokers represent the Order of Saint Lazarus and the Order of Santiago. The artists’s name (Patrick Dallanégra) appears very faintly and discreetly on all the court cards, Aces and Jokers. The four main suit symbols also make up the back design. See the box
