Hôtels-Grils Campanile

Publicity pack for the Campanile hotel and restaurant chain featuring French provincial costumes, with designs by James Hodges.

1985 France Dusserre Héron James Hodges Advertising Fashion & Costume

Shortly before this pack was produced, metropolitan France was reorganised into 22 regions, all of which are represented here by a male or female figure in appropriate attire – on the 12 court cards, on each of the Aces, and on each of the Jokers. Each region’s name, coat of arms and capital are also included together with a detail of a tourist site on each of the court cards and Jokers. The figures in costume are typical of the work of the well-known designer, James Hodges. Although there is no specific explanation, the names on the pip cards are presumably those of the places where Campanile hotels and restaurants can be found. All in all, an attractive and colourful pack. See the box
